Ms. Heather noticed that a few children in the Theatre were playing mail man, so in the spirit of emergent curriculum we decided to enhance their play. We've been storing an old mailbox in the office waiting for the perfect time to put it out...and we found it!
After the children showed interest in writing letters, we supplied them with envelopes and stamps and addressed their envelopes to wherever they wanted to send them.
(Most of them chose their house.)
Since we happen to have a mailbox right outside the school, we went one step further and actually mailed the letters. The children speculated about the amount of time it would take. Tarik said, "30 days."
Since it was such a beautiful day, Ms. Kym decided to keep the kids out for a bit of extra fun on the hills outside.
Today Sylvan Learning came to visit the Mini Gym and Street groups to teach them about robots. The children were each given a lego kit and a computer and through instruction and inputting code, the children were able to bring their lego robots to life!
The children were so excited to share their stories of how they made their robots wave and alligators chomp.
Very cool!
Our Kinders have had the opportunity to partake in a few yoga classes over the last few weeks thanks to our resident fitness guru, Ms. Kelly.
The children learned the importance of preparing our bodies for physical activity as well as the benefits of taking time to rest after exercising.
The summer ended with a bang once again as we fired up the grill and shared some food, laughs and a couple of sweet dance moves with our friends and families. This year we even had a special visitor to our BBQ to help commemmorate Canada's 150th birthday.
This was a first for us at Cairns, but it will definitely not be the last. It really is amazing how much fun bubbles can be. The children were slipping, sliding and diving into a pit filled with bubbles. One thing that I'm sure all of the kids will take away from this experience besides how much fun they had...soap does not taste good.
Everyone's favorite field trip lived up to the hype again this year as we headed to Tinkertown for our final field trip. I feel like the staff had just as much (if not more) fun than the kids.
