Smells like Christmas!

The morning Kinders have been working like elves for the past few days! We wanted to get into the holiday spirit and what better way than to make the daycare smell like cinnamon and get to make our own ornaments from scratch.

First we had to make our own "dough".

After air drying for a couple days, they were solid and ready to be painted. The children had so much fun painting their creations, and using many bright colours.

Lastly, we wanted to personalize them even more. So we made our own cards for the holidays.

Recipe:

  • 1 cup plus additional 1/4 cup ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • white glue - dependant on your liking
  • Mix into a "dough" cut out using cookie cutters
  • Bake for 30 mins at 180°
  • Air dry for 24 - 48 hours

We can't wait to keep in the holiday season, and create more little masterpieces.

Whipped cream anyone?

We had such a productive inservice day today!

We had so much fun making pancakes for our snack, and of course, you can't have pancakes without some whipped cream!

We also had a friendly but competitive game of "Mission Impossible". This seems to be the  game all the children are wanting to play lately, it includes lot of running and dodging balls!

The day was full of sweetness and laughter, we can't wait until our next inservice day!

Ice, Ice Baby!

ICE, ICE, ICE!

That seems to be all the afternoon Kinders are talking about. With hockey and Winter season upon us, the afternoon Kinders are showing interest in hockey and all things related.

To enhance their experiences we started with playing hockey inside with hockey sticks the children had made themselves.

We then took a trip to "Waverly Heights Community Centre" and used the outdoor rink! The children were very excited to go skating and a few decided to shoot some pucks around.

Not everyone knew how to skate, but we all were able to have a fun time with lots of smiles!

International Day of the Child Pancake Breakfast

We had a GREAT turnout this morning to celebrate our annual pancake breakfast to honour the International Day of the Child.

The Theater was buzzing with excitement as families enjoyed some quality time over the delicious pancakes prepared by our very own Ms. Khadija.  Yum yum!

AM Kinders sensory play

Boy have we been busy! Our morning group is still going strong with their interest in colors and mixing and all of a sudden, Halloween...I wonder why?

So we planned some sensory experiences as well as incorporating our new interest in all things Halloween.

First we planned a sensory activity involving different foods with strong smells and tastes.

Next we planned a neighborhood Halloween scavenger hunt which ended in a little impromptu trick or treating.

After that was a fan favorite...slime!

Today we dug into some pumpkins for a full sensory experience and created some jack-o'-lanterns.

The kids had so much fun exploring this week. Can't wait to see what next week brings.
