Learning the Monkey Bars

 Wednesday April 19, 2017

This morning we went outside and enjoyed the beautiful spring weather!

The children have been practising doing the monkey bars all winter, today it was finally nice enough to not wear mittens outside, which made for a perfect monkey bar day.

A few children were brave and lunged into the task, others were more reserved and watched as the other children attempted to cross the high bars, later taking a turn for themselves.

The children used their entire bodies to carry themselves across the rungs of the bars, dropping to their feet a few times when the weight was too much. However, they persevered and tried again.

The children were observed saying:

"I can do the monkey bars, its easy."
"I am not sure I can do it, but I can try."
"I did it all by myself, and tomorrow I will try again."
"If I fall its OK, because I can try again."
"I can reach now!"

Face Painting with Abracadabra Body Paint

We had a few confused looking parents at pick up time yesterday afternoon as they tried to identify their newly transfromed children courtesy of Debbie from Abracadabra Body Paint

As you can see below, her face paint and tattoo creations were truly a work of art, so much so that we had a tough time choosing which pictures to post.  Here are just a few of the amazing creations.

Music with Ms. Joanne (Thursday March 2, 2017)

On Thursday the Kinders had Ms. Joanne come for our first music class. Ms. Joanne is a music therapist and will be joining both the morning and afternoon Kinders each week for a 45 minute class.

Ms. Joanne brought some instruments for the children to learn about, some props and taught us some new songs. The children were very excited about Ms. Joanne's guitar, and are looking forward to being able to strum it in the coming classes.

Stress Relief

The children were offered an opportunity to make homemade stress balls after Nathan had expressed that he would like to make one earlier this month.  Using balloons, flours and glue the children stuffed their balloons with the squishy mixture using funnels, pencils and the tool they found most useful, thier fingers.

"It feels amazing"

"I stuck my finger in to push it down"

"Mine feels like a stress ball!"

"It feels squishy."

As the activity wrapped up a few of the children began to specualte about other acitivites that they could do that would be similar to making stress balls.  They thought that making slime and home made bean bags would be other fun sensory experiences.

Maybe we'll have to try those out next time.

Winter Break Overview

We had a quiet break this year which meant we were able to spend some good quality time with the children.  The first week treated us to some nice weather so we spent a lot of time playing in the mountain of snow that we got over Christmas.

The second week was not as favorable for outside so we kept the holiday theme going as we stayed indoors.

We played a game of unwrap the present where the children had to try to pull apart a massive ball of plastic wrap that contained candies and gifts while wearing gloves.  The results were hilarious.

Later in the week we brought a little bit of winter inside and made some paper snowmen.

We also made some edible Christmas trees.  They were delicious!

We finished up the week with a mini cardboard challenge.

We had a very happy holiday!

Last (Daycare) Day Before Christmas!

Today we had a pretty quiet day!

We watched "The Secret Life of Pets" and had popcorn and candy canes.

Later we had a surprise visit from Ellie's dad who helped us make balloon animals, crowns, hearts, and swords! Thanks Mr. Steve!

We hope you all enjoy your holidays and have a happy new year!

Annual Pancake Breakfast- Celebrating National Child Day

This morning we held our annual Pancake Breakfast to celebrate National Child Day. It was  a lot of fun to spend a few minutes with our families this morning, and of course enjoy pancakes while celebrating the children.

Thanks to all that attended! Thanks to our Chefs- Kym and Khadija for preparing and cooking all the pancakes for us.

For those that were unable to attend we served pancakes for our after school snack.
